| The council is well established and visible as a fraternal organization in the community, generously donating to worthy causes in the area where funds are raised. The general public and companies’ are very willing to support fund raising projects. Some fund-raising activities by volunteer members include: TV Bingo, a 300 Club draw and a Fun Auction. The council has a written donation policy, which helps with consistent administration. Many donations are made to our main causes, Mentally Handicapped, cancer and youth. Bathurst council was the main supporter of Special Olympics held in February 1999 where over 200 athletes from across the Maritime provinces took part. A few of the major donations for these and the Community are worth mentioning. A beautiful UCT Cancer Garden of Hope can be seen in a local shopping center. A UCT Pavilion was constructed near the Regional Hospital, which was donated solely by the council. An elevator was donated for the handicapped at the Regional Civic Center, a Lift at the regional Airport. Vans were also donated for transporting the handicapped and youth in our surrounding communities. A room was equipped for Palliative care and assistance is given to handicapped care homes and work shops. Large donations were also made towards the construction of a youth center, youth camp, swimming pool and an elderly care facility. A UCT Pavilion was completed in 1997 which can be seen at the rear entrance of the Regional Hospital in Bathurst, NB. Serving as a reduced cost accommodations for out of town patients or family of patients. It is operated by the Hospital foundation. The Pavilion consists of twelve bedrooms, kitchen and sitting room. It's construction was fully Sponsored by UCT 827. These activities are well identified with plaques and signs honoring UCT for their donations. Bathurst council also gives out 30 scholarships of $500 each by a public draw process to applicants in our jurisdiction. |
