2004 WINTER GAMES P.E.I.

Team NB Arrives !!!

Team New Brunswick arrived Monday in Charlottetown , PEI ready to take the Special Olympics Winter Games by storm. The 33 athletes and 15 coach/mission staff that will compete in the sports of snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, floor hockey, figure skating, speed skating and curling quickly got settled into their rooms to prepare for the week ahead.

Tuesday was a practice day for all sports and a chance for coaches to take a look at the venues. Tuesday evening Opening Ceremonies were held in a packed Charlottetown Civic Centre. Patty Conners of Woodstock and a member of the snowshoe team, was NB's flag bearer. After the parade of provinces into the centre and behind 4400 screaming supporters the torch was brought on stage to light the ceremonial games fire, signifying the official opening of the games. A repeat broadcast of the ceremonies can be seen on TSN from 3:00pm-4:00pm Atlantic time.

Wednesday is a divisioning day for all sports. If anyone would like to send a message to Team NB to show your support it can be faxed to ATTENTION TEAM NB at 902-566-6467 or e-mail nbsonb@nb.aibn.com.

Daily updates will follow with sport schedules and results as the week progresses.

Thank you for all of you support and for allowing NB's Special Olympians to reach their goals.
